United Spiritual Gathering Council Fire

August 18-20, 2006, Hobuck Beach Campground

The Council Fire burns for the entire weekend.
The Council Fire stays alive for the entire weekend, fed around the clock by volunteers.

Once again we are delighted to announce the upcoming United Spiritual Gathering Council Fire.

The theme has always been related to building stronger ties between all people of the world, and to foster racial unity.  This year the theme goes along with Ruhi Book 2, "Arising to Serve". We are looking for representatives from all cultural groups, including American Indian, African American, Persian, European, Asian and all others to share through song and dance, the wonderful diversity of culture which exists in the world today.

Our guest speakers are Shawn Javid, Dr. Scott Tyeler, and Ferris Paisano.  A salmon dinner will be provided on Saturday evening, and we encourage everyone to participate in a potluck lunch on Saturday.

Since our first Council Fire in the mid 1960s, we've been dedicated to increasing awareness for the twin needs of world peace and unity. We ask all Local Spiritual Assemblies and Groups to help seek those of diverse racial and cultural backgrounds and encourage them to join us in promoting the fundamental principles of the Baha'i Faith.

We invite representatives from all cultural groups to share their heritage through song and dance, weaving the beautiful tapestry of the diversity of cultures that we enjoy in today's world.

A young boy who traveled all the way from Arizona to be at the Council Fire
People come to the Council Fire from all over...this young man came all the way from Arizona with his family!

We are asking for your help with finding and supporting with transportation, people of varying cultures and performing artists in your area who would enjoy joining us this year, but who could not otherwise attend. Communities may wish to sponsor groups by offering food and fuel money so that they may attend. .

Local tribes in your area may appreciate a personal invitation from you to attend the Council Fire, rather than simply receiving a letter of invitation. We urge you to provide that personal touch that may be all it takes to encourage them to join us for the weekend.

The weekend is well planned, but we are a small community, and we'll need your help to keep things running smoothly. We need volunteers for just about every aspect of the program, from leading children's activities to setting up for events, serving food, and cleanup. Performers and musicians are urged to set aside time for the children during the day. With everyone pitching in with their talents and skills, we'll all get to know one another better and become richer for the experience. Please click here to let us know how you can help.

As always, we urge campers needing quiet to choose a site away from the main campfire. When you are participating in activities around the campfire, please be considerate of others. Please do not use electronics such as boom boxes, radios, or car stereos, because we want everyone to be able to enjoy the natural environment. PLEASE no dogs or other pets! Also, please remember that the campsite does not allow vendors.

Still rustic, so bring all your camping equipment!
